A Psychiatry Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is a board-certified and licensed Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) with training in both generalist nursing and psychiatric-mental health nursing. A PMHNP can evaluate and treat patients similarly to a psychiatrist but draws upon nursing knowledge and theories instead. Nursing focuses on wellness and treating the whole person, so typically, we do not focus solely on diagnoses.
Before your first visit, you will receive a link to submit demographic information, along with your reasons for seeking treatment, past treatments tried, and historical data. This information will be used during a 60-minute session to help formulate a treatment plan that aligns with your needs and preferences. We gather a significant amount of data during this first session. While we will discuss probable diagnoses, please understand that these can evolve over time and may not entirely capture your thoughts and emotions. The provider/therapist will answer as many of your questions as possible during this session. We may also discuss ordering labs to rule out physical health concerns, connecting you with a therapist, and more.
We manage both medication and offer therapeutic counseling. If additional therapy is needed, we can also coordinate care with other therapists.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a crisis hotline, visit the nearest emergency room, or call 911.
We accept major credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. We also accept ACH Bank transfer, Cash, Health Savings Account and Wire Transfers. Payments can be made securely online through our patient portal.
As with any business, payment is due at the time of service. We are willing to assist with your insurance billing and will verify your benefits prior to your visit. However, please understand that your insurance contract is between you, your employer, and the insurance company. We are not a party to that contract.
Our providers are contracted with various insurance plans. Please check with your insurance company to ensure that we are in-network. We do accept most major medical insurance plans. Payment is due at the time of service.
An administrative fee will be charged for missed appointments or cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice, as per our office policy.
Yes! In fact, we prefer to coordinate care as much as possible, as it has been shown to produce the best outcomes for patients. If requested, you can sign a Release of Information (ROI) form in our office, which will allow us to share information and contact other providers. Please note that if you have been referred by your PCP, a psychiatric provider will typically need to manage all psychiatric medications if you choose to continue services beyond the initial evaluation.
Before your virtual visit, ensure you have a stable internet connection and a quiet, private space. Gather any relevant medical history, medications you are currently taking, and any questions you may have for the provider. You will also need a device with a camera and microphone, such as a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
